Created in the 1994 using Studio Markers that where intentionally bled through Layout Paper onto Marker Pad, it has been digitally scanned in high resolution to be printed onto quality thick matte paper.
 
This image was very much an experiment in its birth. I had noticed that some of my students preferred using Layout Paper/Pads instead of Marker Paper/Pads. The difference being that Marker Pads were more bleed proof and Layout Pads allowed the marker ink to bleed through to the next sheet below. I became interested in these accidental bleed marks and noticed that they could be harnessed with practice. So this Prince illustration was really all about intentionally ‘bleeding’ the marker ink through a piece of layout onto a piece of bleed proof paper. I think it has a pastel like quality and the purple was chosen as Purple Rain was one of many Prince songs that I enjoyed listening to whilst drawing.
